Our health is determined by our life style and our speaker, Dr. Bela Asztalos spent significant amount of his work to investigate the cause and the effect of atheroscleorsis or hardening of the arteries. He is specificly interested about methods to reduce the consequences of arterial hardening. He agrees, that our diet has a huge influence on our arterial health. Title: “Materials Science and Engineering: what it’s good for, from space to clothing”

About our Speaker:
Dr. Livia M. Racz leads the Advanced Materials and Processes Research Portfolio at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and is Assistant Leader of the Chemical, Microsystem and Nanoscale Technologies Group, where she currently manages programs on wafer-scale satellites and other miniature sensor systems.
Previously, she has led a major experimental effort in the physical realization of superconducting qubits, and has broad interests in materials engineering and microsystems integration. Prior to joining the Laboratory two years ago, Dr. Racz held positions of increasing responsibility at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, including technical director and program manager of several programs in miniature electronic systems, leader of the Advanced Packaging Group, and leader of the Microsystem Technologies Division. She has more than 25 years of experience in developing new materials, processes, and integration schemes, with close to 60 publications, patents, and awards in these areas. She has worked at startup companies and has served on the faculty of Tufts University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Racz received her SB and PhD degrees in materials science and engineering from MIT and was an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at the Institute for Space Simulation in Cologne, Germany.

Az előadás címe: “Molekuláris forradalom a rákkezelésben – jelentés a frontról”

Az előadóról: Dr. Halmos Balázs onkológus/orvoskutató 1992-ben végzett a Semmelweis Orvostudományi Egyetemen, majd a SOTE III. Belklinikan kezdte orvosi pályafutását és 1995 óta az Egyesült Államokban dolgozik. Az elmúlt két évtized során aktív klinikai palyafutas mellett a klinikai onkologia kutatas es transzlacios rakkutatas teren jatszott aktiv szerepet a Harvard, Case Western es Columbia egyetemeken. Jelenleg New York-ban az Albert Einstein Orvosegyetem professzora és a mellkas/fejnyakrák szekció és a klinikai genomikai részleg vezetője. Klinikai és kutatási érdeklődese elsődlegesen a rákok molekuláris diagnosztikája és molekulárisan célzott kezelések kifejlesztése. Mintegy 100 publikációja mellett munkássága díjakat nyert neves társaságoktól, többek között az American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research es American Cancer Society-tól.

Az előadásról: Az előadas az elmúlt húsz év drámai fejleményeiről fog beszámolni a daganatos betegségek kezelésével kapcsolatban. Betekintést fog az előadó nyújtani a daganatok molekuláris alapjainak megértéséről és a diagnosztikus módszerek fejlődéséről, amelyek révén a mindennapi ellátás részévé vált a molekuláris diagnosztika. A molekuláris biomarkerek alapján személyre szabott, célzott kezeléseket aktuális példákkal fogja illusztrálni Dr. Halmos Balázs, a gyakori rákos betegségek- például tüdő, emlő és vastagbélrák alapján. A daganatos kezelésekkel szemben kialakult rezisztencia molekuláris okait, kezelési lehetőségeit és modern módszerekkel- úgynevezett “folyékony biopszia” révén lehetseges diagnosztikajarol is ismertetot kaphatunk az eloadasbol. Vegul, de nem utolsosorban az elmult evek ujabb es meg nagyobb formátumú “forradalmáról” fog az előadó beszámolni – saját immunrendszerünk sikeres kiaknazásáról a daganatos betegségek elleni küzdelemben.

Az előadóról: Dr. Gyorgy Abel is the Director of Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics, and Immunology at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. He also serves as Clinical Instructor in Pathology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Abel is board certified in Clinical Pathology (American Board of Pathology) and Molecular Diagnostics (DABCC), and is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB), and the Royal Society of Medicine (UK). He has over twenty-five years of experience in molecular biology and diagnostics. His clinical and research interests include the molecular pathology of hepatitis C infection, minimal residual disease detection in cancer, and personalized medicine. Dr. Abel previously served as Vice President of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Currently, he is a member of the Genomic Analysis Resource Guide Work Group of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Clinical and Translational Research Subcommittee of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), the Clinical Immunology Committee of the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), and the Clinical Advisory Committee of the Reference Material Institute for Clinical Chemistry Standards (ReCCS) in Japan. Dr. Abel is the author or co-author of approximately 100 peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and scientific conference presentations. He frequently speaks nationally on current issues in clinical pathology and molecular diagnostics.
