Lovász László Professzor Széchenyi-nagydíjas, Bolyai-nagydíjas, valamint Bolyai Janos alkotói díjas és Wolf-díjas magyar matematikus, egyetemi tanár, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia és az amerikai National Academy of Science rendes tagja. A számítógép-tudomány világhírű kutatója. 2014 óta a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia elnöke.

László Lovász is a mathematician and a world-famous computer science scientist. Professor Lovász was awarded the Széchenyi prize, the Bolyai János and the Wolf Prize. He is the current president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and member of the US and the Hungarian National Academy of Science.

Az előadás címe/Title of the talk: “Uncovering Einstein’s Elusive Waves”

Az előadóról/Bio: Zsuzsa Marka is an experimental physicist at Columbia University. She works on the LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory) project, the experiment that announced the first observation of gravitational-waves from a pair of merging black holes. Her main contribution is leading the manufacturing and testing of a key subsystem, the timing system, for the LIGO detectors, and she also leads the timing diagnostics studies for the collaboration. Beyond instrumentation, she also works with members of the Columbia Experimental Gravity group on various aspects of gravitational-wave astrophysics, including analysis of gravitational-wave data in conjunction with electromagnetic and neutrino messengers.

Az előadásról/Abstract: Gravitational waves can be emitted by the cosmic dance of a pair of compact objects such as black holes or neutron stars. Since the prediction of gravitational waves by Einstein in 1916, it took a full century for humanity to detect these elusive waves, due to their miniscule amplitude at far distance. I will talk about the technological innovations that lead to this Nobel prize winning discovery. I will also discuss the current revolution in astronomy and astrophysics enabled by the decade and half long multimessenger effort using gravitational-waves, neutrinos, and electromagnetic counterparts.

Buzsáki professzor Pécsen nevelkedett, orvosi diplomáját a Pécsi Orvostudományi Egyetemen 1974-ben, majd Ph.D. fokozatát 1984-ben az idegtudományok területén a Magyar Tudományos Akadémián, Budapesten szerezte. A leggyakrabban idézett idegtudósok egy százalékába tartozik, az Amerikai Tudományos Akadémia, az Academiae Europaeae és a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia tagja. Számos vezető, idegtudományokkal foglalkozó folyóirat, így a Science és a Neuron folyóiratok szerkesztőbizottságának tagja. Az Université Aix-Marseille, a Kaposvári Egyetem, valamint a Pécsi Tudományegyetem honoris causa doktora. A 2011-es „Agy-díjat” Somogyi Péterrel és Freund Tamással megosztva kapta.

About the speaker: Dr. Buzsáki grew up in Pecs and received his medical degree from the Medical University of Pecs in 1974. He got his PhD degree in neuroscience from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is one of the most prominent neruoscientist in the world , he is a member of the National Academy of Sciences USA, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Academiae Europaeae and an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Buzsáki received honoris causa from Université Aix-Marseille, France, University of Kaposvar, Hungary and University of Pecs, Hungary. He was the winner of the inaugural Brain Prize in 2011 together with Tamas Freund and Peter Somogyi for their work describing organization of neurons in the hippocampus and the cortex.

Our health is determined by our life style and our speaker, Dr. Bela Asztalos spent significant amount of his work to investigate the cause and the effect of atheroscleorsis or hardening of the arteries. He is specificly interested about methods to reduce the consequences of arterial hardening. He agrees, that our diet has a huge influence on our arterial health.
